The Central Bank of Mauritania from 1 January 2018, will issue a new series of banknotes and
coins of Ouguiya. With stable inflation and promising economic prospects, the new range will
further strengthen the development of other means of payment in Mauritania.
Each new currency has a zero less than the old one but the value remains the same. This is a
change of standard that will allow the circulation of all denominations fiduciary money. The
new range is as follows:
DOUBLE PRICE DISPLAY
Prices of goods and services will be obligatorily indicated in the old and the new currency for
three years. This will allow the consumer to keep the same purchasing power since the value
remains the same.

THIS IS THE DEADLINE FOR EXCHANGE FROM THE OLD CURRENCY TO CENTRAL BANK
From this date, the old banknotes and coins are completely demonetized. However, the double
display will be maintained until December 31, 2020.

END OF THE CIRCULATION OF THE OLD TICKETS AND COINS
Old notes remain exchangeable for new ones only at Central Bank counters. As of 1 July 2018,
commercial transactions can only be redeemed by the new tickets and / or the new coins.

ENTRY INTO FORCE OF THE NEW SERIES
Old and new series circulate at the same time. The old banknotes and coins can be exchanged
for new ones at the Central Bank, the Treasury and from primary banks. Prices will be displayed
in old and new currencies.
