The President of Gambia, Adama Barrow, received samples of the new banknotes from the Governor of the Central Bank of the Gambia. The new notes are set to begin circulation from today onwards.
The central bank will issue the money through commercial banks who hold deposits with them. There is a high demand for cash during the Tabaski season. When the banks approach them for cash, the central bank will issue them the new notes. Both the new and old notes will be in circulation until further notice.
