After the launch of the new 50 and 500 kroner banknotes on October 18, 2018, the old 50 and 500 kroner notes can be used as means of payment for exactly one year (October 18, 2019). The Norges Bank is obligated to exchange the out-of-circulation notes for a period of 10 years. The bank, after the allotted time, exchanges the notes and coins for a nominal fee.
