The Association of Commercial Banknote issuers has urged the public to spend or exchange £5 and £10 paper notes by September 30th as they will be withdrawn from circulation within a week.
Polymer notes from Bank of Ireland, Danske Bank, and Ulster Bank were introduced into circulation in February and will replace the paper notes. The polymer notes are more secure and environmentally friendly. The deadline set for using £5 and £10 paper notes is September 30th, 2019.
The First Trust Bank had confirmed that they would cease their note issuance by June 2020 and will distribute Bank of England banknotes instead. The First Trust Bank notes will remain legal until June 20, 2020.
