St. Kitts based Eastern Carribean Central Bank will circulate the new polymer banknotes on June, including features to assist the visually impaired. The EC$50 will be the first to be released in June followed by EC$ 100, EC$ 20 and EC$ 10 banknotes in August and September. They have an increased number of security features reducing their susceptibility to counterfeiting and also a texturized feature for helping the visually impaired. Some tactile features are also included, which are the raised bumps on the notes. This will help the visually impaired to feel them and to identify the notes in their possession.
In the Eastern Carribean, not many blind persons can read Braille, so it would be a disadvantage if we add Braille on the notes. The ECCB serves as the Central Bank for Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Kitts and Nevis, Montserrat and Anguilla. These banknotes should not be crumpled or ironed, as unlike the banknotes, these will be damaged.
