To increase the festive atmosphere with the theme of returning to the motherland the SAR government proposed to issue banknotes to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland. Towards the second half of this year, the banknotes are scheduled to be launched and up to 10 commemorative banknotes of the same denominations can be exchanged by a Macao resident. A new banknote with a denomination of 20 yuan for the 20th anniversary of the return of the Macao to the motherland was issued by Licensing Bank of China Co., Ltd and Atlantic Bank Co., Ltd. 5 million is the issuing limit of each issuing bank.
The sculpture of “Shengshi Lotus” dominates the front of the banknote. At the back of the banknote, there is the “Hong Kong-Zhuhai- Macao bridge” where the Tower Bridge has the Chinese knot as the main theme.
