Towards the end of 2018, the production and issuance of 500 euro banknotes will be interrupted, which was decided by the European Central Bank. This measure was taken in the hope that financing of terrorism and black work will be reduced. They will continue to be legal tender and may be redeemed for an unlimited period of time.
