BSP Assistant Governor Dahlia Luna has announced the introduction of a coin version of the P20 banknote by the end of this year or the beginning of the next.
A study by the University of the Philippines indicates the P20 banknote, regularly used, is the most soiled note of all. The central bank is yet to finalize the design of the coin. The BSP wishes to launch the coin before Christmas season.
Even though the cost of minting the coin is more expensive than the banknote, it has a longer lifespan than the P20 banknote.
