CNB issues new versions of the CZK 100 and CZK 200 banknotes

On 5 September 2018, the Czech National Bank will put into circulation a new 2018 version of the CZK 100 banknote. The new banknote is based on the same design and its dimensions and basic parameters are also the same as the previous version. However, its protection against counterfeiting has been enhanced signicantly. e existing protective elements have been changed and new ones added, and other alterations have been made to the design. is poster describes only some of the protective elements, intended for the general public and visible to the naked eye.

Charles IV will still be the main motif of the CZK 100 note and John Amos Comenius that of the CZK 200 note. The versions of the CZK 100 note that were put into circulation in 1995 and 1997 and the versions of the CZK 200 note that were issued in 1996 and 1998 will remain legal tender and will be gradually replaced by the new version depending on their degree of wear.

“With the new versions of the CZK 100 and CZK 200 notes, we round off the innovated issue of Czech banknotes, which was launched in 2007. The main changes consist in new protective elements. However, they will also allow for two-sided processing of banknotes using state-of-the-art machines and therefore increase the efficiency of ensuring smooth circulation of money, which is one of the main tasks of the Czech National Bank,” CNB Governor Jiří Rusnok commented on this banknote issue.

The issuance of the 2018 version of the CZK 100 and CZK 200 banknotes is part of a long-term programme to improve the protection of Czech banknotes against counterfeiting.

THE 1996 AND 1998 VERSIONS OF THE CZK 200 BANKNOTE WILL REMAIN LEGAL TENDER!
THE 1993 VERSION OF THE 200 BANKNOTE, WHICH HAS ALREADY CEASED TO BE LEGAL
TENDER, WILL REMAIN EXCHANGEABLE AT THE CZECH NATIONAL BANK!
