Australia’s new $20 enters the circulation from today onwards. The $20 is the fourth denomination of the new banknote series. The first three denominations, $5, $10, and $50, were released over the past three years. The new $100 is expected to be released in 2020.
The new note celebrates ingenuity and entrepreneurship and also includes a tactile feature to help the blind and people with low vision. The existing $20 note will continue as legal tender and will be withdrawn in time.
The Reserve Bank has closely worked with banknote equipment manufacturers and retailers to help prepare the ATMs and other banknote authenticating machines to handle the new $20.
