The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) will remove the 5-peso bill from circulation from February 1, 2020, onwards. They are legal for all transactions until January 31, 2020. All financial institutions have to receive 5-peso bills for exchange or accreditation in accounts until February 28.
Schedule:
- February 1, 2020, the bill will cease to have cancellation power and cannot be used in any transactions.
- February 28, 2020, banks must exchange the 5-peso bill.
The new silver-colored coin of the same value, with the image of a myrtle, will replace the bill permanently. In May 2018, the 2-peso bill was out of circulation.
