On 2019, one million- € 2 coins were issued by the Central Bank of Ireland to commemorate the centenary of the meeting of the First Dail in the Mansion House on 21st January 1919. This was launched by governor Philip R. Lane in the presence of An Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó Fearghaíl TD, the Lord Mayor of Dublin Nial Ring, Minister Paschal Donohoe TD and Minister Regina Doherty TD. With an issue limit of one thousand, the Central Bank is also issuing a special € 100 gold coin to commemorate the meeting of the first dail.
Later this year, an annual mint set and a proof set containing the commemorative € 2 coins will also be issued. The designer of the coins is Emmet Mullins. The coins have the words ‘An Chead Dial’ surrounded with images of the first TDs in attendance at the landmark meeting. Through this coin, the first elected representatives of Dail Eireann and the foundations they laid are being remembered. To commemorate the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising, 4.5 million special € 2 coins were issued by the Central Bank in 2016. This is the second time that the Central Bank of Ireland has issued a special circulating euro coin.
