Eurozone decides to stop printing 500-euro banknotes with 19 of the nations decides to stop its printing from 27th January 2019. The notes in circulation will remain legal tender and can be used for making payments. The 500-euro notes had been used by criminals for money laundering and for terrorist financing because of its high value and portability. Of the total number of banknotes in circulation 500-euro bills account for just 2.4 % i.e a little over 20% of the total value.
