Banco de México has released to circulation on 22 April 2020 a new coin of 20 pesos.

Obverse:
In the center field, the national shield with the inscription “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS” (UNITED MEXICAN STATES) along the top of the coin.
Reverse:
Shows an image of the foundation of the Villa Rica de Veracruz (currently the Port of Veracruz) in April 1519. On the left side, an XVI-century ship floating over-stylized sea waves; on the right side, the contour of the Old Palace of the City Council, currently the Municipal Palace. On top of this building, for the first time, there is a new security feature: a latent image of number 20. To the left, on top of the ship and near the coin center edge, the words “500 VERACRUZ” in microprinting and below the Mexican mint mark “M°”. In the coin field contour, the wording “500 AÑOS DE LA FUNDACIÓN DE LA CIUDAD Y PUERTO DE VERACRUZ” (500 YEARS OF THE FOUNDING OF THE CITY AND PORT OF VERACRUZ). Finally, in the coin exergue and all along the peripheral ring as part of the coin center, the denomination ($20), with the years “1519-2019” to the left.
